Getting Started
ShotClean is an Android app that automatically archives and cleans up your screenshots. It archives the previous day's screenshots every night and deletes them after they expire, helping you keep a clutter-free gallery.
Install the App
Go to the Download page to get the latest APK and install it on your Android device.
System requirement: Android 13 or higher
Initial Setup
When you first open ShotClean, you need to complete the following three authorization steps:
1. Grant Media Access Permission
ShotClean needs to read screenshot files on your device. Tap "Authorize" and select Allow in the system dialog.
2. Grant Media Management Permission
To automatically remove the original images from your gallery after archiving, ShotClean requires media management permission. Tapping the button will redirect you to the system settings page — enable the corresponding toggle there.
3. Set an Archive Storage Directory
Choose a folder for storing archived screenshots. It is recommended to create a dedicated directory in external storage (e.g., ShotClean). A .nomedia file will be added automatically so archived screenshots won't appear in your gallery.
Note
Once the permissions and directory are configured, ShotClean will run automatically without needing to keep the app in the foreground.
Core Features
Automatic Archiving
ShotClean automatically archives the previous day's screenshots to your configured storage directory every day at 3:00 AM by default, and removes the originals from the system gallery.
You can also tap "Run Now" on the home screen to trigger archiving manually.
Archive Management
Switch to the "Archive" tab to view all archived screenshots:
- Restore Screenshots — Select screenshots to restore, tap Restore, and they will be moved back to the system gallery and added to the exclusion list to avoid being archived again
- Manual Deletion — Select unwanted screenshots and delete them to free up space
Auto-Expiration Cleanup
Archived screenshots are kept for 30 days by default. You will receive a notification 3 days before expiration, and they will be permanently deleted automatically when they expire.
You can adjust the retention period to 7–60 days in Settings.
Notifications
With notifications enabled, ShotClean will send alerts at the following times:
| Notification Type | Default Time | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Archive Summary | 09:00 daily | "Archived X screenshots, tap to view" |
| Expiration Warning | 3 days before | "X screenshots will be permanently deleted in 3 days" |
| Directory Issue | Immediate | Alerts when the archive directory becomes unavailable |
